Phonetics

Phonetics vs. Phonology
(a) Phonetics(語音學): The study of speech sounds.
(b) Phonology(音韻學): The study of the patterning of speech sounds

[P] is a voiceless, bilabial stop

Phonology
inpossible vs. impossible

Phonetics
(a) Voicing
(b) Place of articulation
(c) Manner of articulation

Voiced vs. Voiceless
Voiceless: When the vocal cords are apart, the airstream is not obstructed at the glottis and it passes freely into the supraglottal cavities.
Voiced: When the vocal cords are together, the airstream forces its way through and causes them to vibrate.

Place of Articulation:
To characterize the features which refer to the movement or position of the tongue, teeth, or lips.(發音腔位置研究)

Manner of Articulation
To characterize the way the airstream is affected as it travels from the lungs up and out of the mouse and nose.(氣流研究)
Stop and Continuants:
Stops: to refer to the sounds produced with the characteristics of airstreams stopped completely in the oral cavity when they enter the oral cavity.
Continuants: to refer to the sounds which are not stopped completely in the oral cavity.
